Rescue Groups (Dogs) |
For those folks who are interested
in a specific breed of dog, most breeds have a rescue group. These
groups take animals picked up by the various Animal Control groups
around the Metroplex as well as owner give-ups (many times due to
age, relocation, financial difficulties).
The benefit of working with a breed-specific rescue group is their
interest in placing the right dog in the right home. The dogs have
already been checked out by a veterinarian, are healthy or health
problems have been identified and are being treated. These dogs
have usually been fostered for a period of time by someone experienced
with the breed. Foster homes are able to find out about the personality
of the animal, many times being able to tell if they are safe with
children, cats or other dogs.
Many rescue groups are in need of foster homes, so if you are not
sure you are ready for a permanent placement or simply want to help
out, these rescue groups would be glad to hear from you.
Rescue groups typically screen the home of potential adopters or
fosters, and there is usually a fee involved for a permanent placement
of a pet. These rescued animals are spayed or neutered before they
are released.
Our Clinic would be pleased to assist you in contacting the appropriate
Rescue Group. We do strongly encourage you to become familiar with
the traits of the breed through research, either on-line or through
visiting with experts such as rescue coordinators.

| Obedience Training-Intro |
The benefits of obedience training far outweigh
the short period of time spent in training class and working with
your dog. Not only do you train your dog to respond to basic obedience
commands, you learn how to communicate with your companion. The
basic
obedience training commands are heel, sit, stay, come, down.
Many areas around town provide basic obedience training, including
All Breed Obedience Training Club which meets at Flagpole Hill,
Dallas Obedience Training Club (DOTC) which meets in a covered parking
garage close to Northwest Highway and Central Expressway, various
PETCO stores.
For folks who may have an interest, there are numerous other Obedience
Training Clubs around the city which take Obedience Training to
the competitive level, which incorporates the basic commands off-lead
up to scent discrimination and hand signals. While this is not for
everyone, it is a lot of fun for those who are interested.
For further information concerning basic obedience training, please
contact our Clinic or do an on-line search. |
