Doctor Emeritus
Dr. Cantrell started East Dallas Veterinary Clinic in October, 1972. It began in a small office space in a multi-tenant shopping center. He has practiced at the same intersection of Lakeland and Ferguson since that date. The current clinic was relocated in 1982 to a new facility built next door to the old location and the Clinic has enjoyed two physical expansions since then.
In January of 2008 Dr. Cantrell sold the practice to Dr. Ellsworth. He is looking forward to spending more time with his family and pursuing his many hobbies, in particular fly fishing.
After serving in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corp from 1969-1971, he worked in group practice in South Oak Cliff prior to establishing his East Dallas Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Cantrell graduated from Texas A&M University with B.S. and DVM degree in 1969.
He has been a career-long member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Texas Veterinary Association (TVMA) and Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association (DCVMA). He served on the Board of Directors of the TVMA for six years, and has served as President and in various other capacities of the DCVMA. He has also been a member of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice since its inception 25 years ago. To maintain membership in the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice, 50 hours of approved continuing education per year are required. Dr. Cantrell also serves on the Development Council at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M University. Dr. Cantrell is also licensed in New Mexico.
In addition to his many professional affiliations, Dr. Cantrell serves on the Board of Directors for the Ferguson Road Initiative. This is a neighborhood group established to promote the revitalization of the Ferguson Road corridor in East Dallas and has been very active in working for the betterment of this beautiful East Dallas thoroughfare.
Dr. Cantrell is an avid fly-fisherman and ties his own flies. He is currently owned by his wife and his wonderful dog, Scout, who make fantastic fishing buddies.
